The Seishinkan Sydney Branch, formerly known as the Seishinkan Sydney Dojo, relocated to its current location in May 2017. Under the leadership of Branch Manager Elliott Kieran, the branch has steadily grown in recent years, bringing together a dedicated community of members who share a deep passion for Japanese swords and Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu Iaido.

Elliot sensei began his journey with Seishinkan while studying at the Gold Coast Dojo. After graduating from university, he returned to his hometown of Sydney and continued practicing iaido on his own. Training in isolation for more than a decade, without fellow practitioners nearby, he devoted himself to diligent solo practice and participated in numerous national iaido competitions in Kyoto, Japan. His perseverance and dedication are truly commendable, and today many students gather to train under his guidance. The Sydney Branch is now nurturing the next generation of practitioners, steadily developing as a vibrant and supportive dojo.

in Australia’s largest and most cosmopolitan city, the Sydney Branch enjoys engaging with Japanese culture, often incorporating traditional Japanese products, tools, and clothing into their daily lives and training. In this way, the dojo reflects a unique phenomenon—reminiscent of Japan’s wakon yōsai (“Japanese spirit, Western techniques”) during the Meiji era, but in reverse—showcasing a deep enthusiasm for adopting and integrating Japanese traditions into Australian life.

Guided by the spirit of “Gakuji Fuen”—“Constantly Learning”—the Seishinkan Sydney Branch continues to evolve, striving to pass on the art and philosophy of iaido to future generations.
